The demo is already out and playable to those who have pre-ordered this game, and those of us who have already played it thus far have come away more than impressed. The tempo of this game is intense, and the various different zombie types you'll find yourself facing in addition to your run of the mill "infected" ( who can still run faster and jump higher than your average Joe), makes for an insane experience when played on the "extreme" difficulty level ( a must). The graphics are great and the gameplay is as smooth as I've ever seen generated by a game in its initial release. Valve has really outdone themselves this time. Although only the first level is available in the demo, there are no flaws in any respect from what I can tell in playing through the fist stage about a dozen times now. The demo is made available to the general public on November 11th, so if you're not already sold on this game, definitely give this game a try, but keep in mind that Valve has hinted that the demo may not be available after the 18th when the full game is released. Once you try it though, be prepared to part with $50, it's that good.

Listen to this man.. I have been waiting for this game to come out since December 2006, and have closely followed every update that has been released on it. If you're a fan of 28 Days Later or Dawn of the Dead, then you literally cannot go without playing this. As Mr. Backer said, the infected are crazy fast and brutal, and the specialized types cause nothing but panic and mayhem. The game is extremely fast-paced and emphasizes team-work (actually necessitates it--you can't run off by yourself or you're fucked), something that I think we've all been looking for.
The drawbacks are minimal at best. the weapon choice is somewhat limited, but I don't think of that as a bad thing at all; you run out of primary ammo so fast that you'll be using your pistols for the majority of a scenario (double 1911's with unlimited ammo? HOLY ENGORGEMENT OF MY NAUGHTY PARTS!) Plus, the primaries consist of shotguns (pump and automatic) and Uzis and M16s, what more could you need? And if it comes down to it, just beat the living shit out of one of those rabid fucks with the butt of your gun.
Honestly, despite how it may seem, I'm having a hard time articulating how incredibly awesome this game is. Imagine a radioactive scorpion-on-lobster chainsaw fight with over the top pyrotechnics and "Eye of the Tiger" playing in the background at high decibels, and then you have only a fraction of the awesome that is (and will be) Left 4 Dead.
Buy it!

Buy it! No worries sir, for there is no need to continue this pursuit of augmented articulation my friend. For Valve recently released a promotional artist's depiction of said experience when playing Left 4 Dead, it should be making the next trailer sometime soon: KAHTSSS VS. ROCK-LOBSTERP.S. You can't quite hear Head Referee Hasselhoff over "Eye of the Tiger" at 280 decibels, but basically the transcript is as follows: P.S.S. I wish I could take full credit for this depiction, but unfortunately Valve owns the overall rights, our comrade-in-arms Deuce-Deuce obviously holds the intellectual rights ( congrats?), but neither in conception nor creation can I take any credit. So without further ado, the artist in question of this Magnum Opus:

Wow, that's even more awesome that I imagined.. Did you make that? I did, and that's ten minutes of my life I won't get back, but take pride ( and/or grief) in the fact that this is as much your creation as it is mine. Either way, at least Bob Ross approves.

Our young friend Knives in the Back has just recently acquired this game, so he'll definitely be playing with us in the near future. We've got to run him through all the campaigns on Expert first, a duty that I will take with no questions asked. Who wants to help me?

Left 4 Dead Update Released March 11, 2009, 5:04 pm - Valve - Product Update Updates to Left 4 Dead have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:
Versus Mode Changes
Tank melee attack can now hit multiple Survivors in one swing
Fixed Tank punch being able to hit targets behind walls
Fixes to 'Tank parking'. The Tank will now run back and attack the Survivors if he becomes AI due to two players expiring the frustration meter
Fixed a case where a Tank frustration meter could run out right as he was in his death animation and he would come back to life
Fixed a case where the Tank was moving too slowly while crouching and being shot
Tanks now have the possibility of spawning in a slightly different position for the first and second teams
The order that the teams play as Survivors is now determined by which team has the higher overall score. The winning team will play as Survivors first
The Smoker tongue can now target and grab victims through common infected
Increased the cone in which a Smoker can grab a target
The Witch no longer cuts Smoker tongues in a radius around her
Boomers that explode in mid-air will now hit Survivors directly below them with Bile
Reduced the damage that burning Hunters do to pounced victims
Adjusted the time at which players take over from bots to avoid 5 seconds of the bot standing idle while the player finishes connecting.
Fixed some cases where versus score was not being recalculated properly. It is no longer beneficial to pass pills between players at the end of the round or heal other players and then shoot them
Fixed a case where it was possible to spectate an AI infected and hit +use to take them over
Server Changes
Added convar sv_gametype that allows server operators to limit the types of games that will start on their server. Default value is 'coop, versus'. Can be changed to just 'coop' or just 'versus' to limit to those game types
General changes
Fixed a case where players would join as a dead Survivor when a living Survivor was still available
Fixed a case where restarting a level due to the team dying would give more than the max primary ammo on restart
Fixed the speaking icon showing up on the local player during level transition if voice_vox was set to 1
The scoreboard now shows the numeric value of a player's ping
GameUI
Quick match will now try to match to any campaign. Removed the preference to match to games according to the player progressing through all campaigns
Games in a finale are now joinable via the Friends and Steam Group games list
